The packaging is well done. Everything was seating well in their place. However I was disappointed to see it came in a cardboard box, not the plastic bin described in the photos and videos. I also think it would be useful to have some printing material in there for instructions. As much as I love not wasting paper, something in there would be nice...
The website can be confusing. The Hexagons are cool looking, but hard to navigate. We don't like how you need to click through the entire pop up window to get to the proper pdf instructions. The videos that are shown are too quick and too far away to be useful. Also, the small differences in the prototype shown in the instructions and the version we have will be frustrating for some users.
Assembling the robots was fun and relatively strait forward. There were a few times when we got stuck, but then figured out what to do. It was cool and enlightening to see how the different robots functions. The kits definitely get the point across on how mixing biology and technology can lead to very interesting and beneficial results.
The physical technology is awesome, we loved how it is put together and functions. We did not like the webpage/app. It's way too limited. Would be amazing if it had the ability to code, or do block based coding. Or at least had more controls. For how cool the robot is, when you get to the controls it's a bit of a bummer due to how limited it is. A barbed fitting for silicone tube, or a beveled connection point will make it easier to put on. Kids are going to have a hard time putting the silicone tube on the body.
*label servo connectors on microcontroller and tell us which one to use in the instructions *say Don’t use http for website, otherwise it will not work *turn it on before fitting pieces together *More info on "Do we need to cut off ties?" *More photos/angles for each step for fitting
We love it and would certainly love to have more! We are thinking the kit is good for groups of two. Larger groups can be made, but only if the kids are mature enough to have different roles. We do a lot of consulting at schools, with teachers, libraries and more. The biggest changes I see that need to happen to make this more widely available for most educators is: 1. The website needs to be more organized 2. The app to control the robots needs more functionality
